Spargana of a Diphyobothrium sp. from a muscle of a fish, a secondary host for plerocercoid larvae or spargana of the f. Diphyllobothriiddae which has as its definitive host humans and fish eating mammals, the first intermediate host is the cyclops. Humans are infected by eating raw or undercooked fish flesh containing sparagana (plerocercoid larva). Spargana are white ribbon like solid unsegmented bodies, have not developed a scolex and measure up to 20mm by 1-1.5 mm wide. (from Orihel and Ash, 1994, Parasites in Human Tissues)
